ROZIE HOONG
Rozie began her education in Erhu performance at the age of 14 under Zhang Yu Ming, and is under the personal tutelage of Xu Wen Jing. She was awarded the 2nd and 3rd Prize in the National Chinese Music Competition Erhu Intermediate (2000) and Senior (2002) categories respectively. More recently, she was awarded 2nd Prize in the 2012 Erhu Open Category. She was also conferred a Diploma in Erhu Performance by the Central Conservatory of Music in 2005, and later on passed the Diploma in Erhu Performance by the National University of Singapore Centre for the Arts with a distinction in 2007.
While pursuing her music studies at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Rozie was awarded the Ngee Ann Kong Si Scholarship for Degree Studies in 2010, and graduated with First Class Honours in the Degree Programme validated by the University of Wales in 2011. She has demonstrated in masterclasses of Min Hui Fen and Huang An Yuan.
Her solo performances include A Trilogy on the Erhu organised by Singapore Chinese Orchestra in 2004, a concerto with Toa Payoh West Community Club Chinese Orchestra in Con Brio! 2006. She has also done various recordings with Stereo Image Productions including the soundtrack for local film “Wa for Wayang” (2011) and Chinese film “Pandora's Sword” (2012) in the song “Ge Qian” sang by Chinese pop artist Zhang Jie. She recently recorded for the theme music of Chingay 2014. Rozie was also a guest soloist for Jay Chou World Tour Concert 2008 in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.
Rozie also has vast experience in ensemble playing since secondary school, then later a member of the Toa Payoh West Community Club Chinese Orchestra since 2001 and was the concert master and Zhonghu principal. She had been part of the team to win awards in the National Chinese Music Competition in 2002, 2006, 2008 and 2010. Apart from performing on her instrument, she has conducted the orchestra during its public concert in 2011 and Beautiful Sunday performance at Esplanade Concert Hall in 2012.
