CHIA WAN HUA

 

Chia Wan Hua is a committee member of Huqin Association, Vice-president and Treasurer, concertmaster of Toa Payoh West Community Club Chinese Orchestra. She was the President and lead performer in her secondary school Guzheng ensemble, and concertmaster and committee member in her polytechnic days. Currently, she is a student of Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts pursuing a degree in music performance.

 

Since young, Wan Hua has picked up various instruments including Erhu, Guzheng and Piano. She is presently under the personal tutelage of renowned Erhu maestro, Zhang Yu Ming. In 2006, she obtained merit awards from both the Central Conservatory of Music and National University of Singapore with Diplomas in Erhu performance. She was also awarded Second prize and First prize in the biennial National Chinese Music Competition Erhu youth category in 2004 and 2006 respectively.

 

In October 2013, Wan Hua participated in “The Terem Crossover International Music Competition ” held in Saint Petersburg, Russia, with local huqin quintet, Stringwerkz. The quintet won 2 special awards for the competition.

 

Wan Hua is also the receipient of Ngee Ann Kongsi Scholarship in 2012 and Tan Chin Tuan Scholar in 2013 and 2014.

 

A young and aspiring performer, Wan Hua had received critical acclaim for her various performances.
